WASHINGTON — The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved a generic version of Viagra to treat the erectile dysfunction that caused many men to suffer impotence.
The drug, called sildenafil, has been approved by the FDA to be sold under the brand name Viagra.
Viagra is the first drug to be approved to treat erectile dysfunction that is also a PDE-5 inhibitor.
